If we were to list all of the various careers in business, Campus Starter would be looking less like a magazine and more like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Here's a little taster of the range of careers that are available in business. No hobbits were killed in the writing of this article.
Accountant
OK, so we all like money, but do you enjoy working with it? Perhaps you do your mom's taxes for her every year, or maybe you wish every day at school were math class? In which case, accountancy could be the career path for you. Accountants work for businesses, in accountancy firms, and for individuals, and they do everything from taxes to budgeting to bookkeeping.
Marketing
Anything that involves advertising a product and selling it to the public or a company is marketing. Ever seen an advertisement that blew your mind? Maybe you should work in advertising. Interested in why people buy certain things and what makes them do it? Maybe you're a born Market Analyst. There are loads of exciting marketing careers, in areas such as advertising, sales management, customer service representative and public relations. If you're imaginative, enthusiastic, and enjoy working really hard on something that you're passionate about, then maybe you could be working on the next ad that everyone's talking about round the water cooler.
Retail Management
Ever had a part-time retail job at thought "I could manage this place better than my boss"? Now's your chance! Retail Managers do all kinds of jobs including front-of-shop work such as providing great customer service, retail merchandising and supervising staff, in addition to the behind-the-scenes tasks like human resources, scheduling, and payroll. Many Store Managers have bachelor's degrees, and a Store Manager position can lead to a career as a Buyer, or as a Regional Sales Manager. Plus, staff always get an awesome discount - and you always need new shoes.
Health Care Administrator
Health care administration careers are some of the hottest careers in North America. After all, hospitals and health centres don't run themselves! Whether you're working in a hospital organizing patient care, or working on policy decisions in a residential nursing home, you're doing something which will help people, and will give back to society.
Entrepreneur
Did you ever have a lemonade stand when you were a kid? You're a born entrepreneur! Entrepreneurs are people who either develop new businesses, or come up with new ideas within an existing business. To be able to do this, you need to have a good imagination; be flexible, as you may have to adjust your ideas to fit into a budget; and believe in yourself and your ideas (even if no-one else does). It's one of the hardest career paths, but one of the most rewarding, as there is nothing better than seeing a new invention, product, or business; and knowing that its success is all down to you.
